Is it not awesome to know that you have a colleague in your network whom you could rely on in times of need?

Lydia Banda a staff member at Nelson Mandela University- North Campus has reaffirmed the value she places on the relationship of trust, commitment and compassion towards her colleagues in the work place.

Ms Banda who is in no relation to the colleague, has been waiting in hospitals, seeing doctors, fetching medication and seeing that her colleague got enough care while in hospital. On many occasions she has sacrificed her own family time for her “Madibaz family”. Lydia would not leave her colleague as she wanted to ensure she received the best possible medical care.

Since 30th April Lydia has spent the equivalent of 60 hours assisting her colleague, away from her family.

It is important to note and celebrate the good colleagues in our lives as support also helps to ease the journey of the recovery process and keeps the team relationship strong.

“A fundamental concern for others in our individual and community lives would go a long way in making the world the better place we so passionately dreamt of”- Nelson Mandela
